Proxy Server Settings no Longer Required !  This page is for Reference Only !

In simple terms, a Proxy Server is a large, locally based storage area for recently visited web pages. The advantage of this is that if someone else has recently visited the same site that you wish to access, the loading time will be dramatically reduced, because the information does not need to be transfered all the way from its original location. For example, if somebody accessed a web page in the United States in the morning, then you tried to access the same page that afternoon, it would load the page locally and quickly from the proxy server as opposed to transferring the page all the way from the States. An additional advantage is that the Proxy Server requests all web pages on your computers behalf, so that any web pages that are infected with a virus gets transfered to the proxy Server and not your computer. When the Proxy Server requests the web pages on your behalf, it does so with a different IP number to your computer, so any potential hackers out there will only see the Proxy Server's IP number and not your's, so when they try to hack into your computer, your IP number is disguised and your computer is protected from hackers.
How do I configure my settings for Internet Explorer ?

Firstly, at the top of Internet Explorer 5, you will see "Tools". Click on your "Tools" and from here, you will see a drop down menu, with "Internet Options" at the bottom of this drop down menu. Click on the "Internet Options" and here you will now see a row of tabs at the top. Click on the "Connections" tab and the first item to be displayed will be your "Dial Up Networking" settings. Highlight your "Net Vision Internet services" dial up networking connection, if it isn't made as your default connection, then click on the "Settings" button along side. This will take you into some more Internet Options, which are customised and individual to your Net Vision Internet services dial up networking connection and will not effect any other dial up networking connections you may have. Here you will see a check box with "Proxy Server". Ensure this is ticked and then click on the "Advanced" button along side. This is where you Proxy Server configuration is contained and the first field you will see has the entry named "HTTP". Along side the "HTTP" field you should enter     proxy.net-vision.com.au      and then further to the right will be another field, asking for the "Port". In this field, you should enter  8080  The next field down has the name "Secure". In this field, you should enter exactly the same as the previous "HTTP" field. That is     proxy.net-vision.com.au      and then the same port number along side the "Secure" field, being  8080  This is all that needs to be entered, all the following fields can be left blank. From here, just keep clicking on the "OK" button, untill you come back to your browser, with no options displayed. To place these settings into Internet Explorer 4, the proceedure is exactly the same, with the exception of the initial entry into your Internet Options. Instead of clicking on "Tools" at the top of your browser, click on "View" and this will display "Internet Options" at the bottom of the drop down menu and from there, the proceedure is the same.
